Relations with Victoria in relation to the KellyGang

KellyGang

The relations between Victoria and New South Wales at the time of the KellyGang was complicated.
The River Murray was the boarder and it was patrolled by both sides wishing to enforce the customs laws.

At the time of the Jerilderie robbery New South Wales had their worst fears confirmed; Victoria could not contain the KellyGang and their bushrangers.

Sir Henry Parkes wanted to remove the telegraph officer from Jerilderie for his own protection (BWC)

The New South Wales government were so concerned that they contributed half of the final reward. (Argus18/2/79) (Argus19/2/79) (Argus27/2/79) (JJK)

The New South Wales government renewed its Outlawry Act (Argus27/2/79) (Argus3/3/79)

The New South Wales and Queensland Governments objected to the Reward Board's recommendations. (Argus9/5/81)
