First settled by J Redfern,
an overlander from New South Wales before 1840 for Edward Jnr and W Howe
north of Mitta Mitta. Yabba was 25,000 acres. By 1845 Redfern transferred
the lease to William Howe JP. In 1854 MacLaurin owned the lease,
by1865 Alexander Paton and Sons
held it. It would seem that the Paton family still held the lease by the time
of the KellyGang.
In 1876 the license was held by Andrew Paton & Sons, ? acres, license fee half year £75
Where did the name Yabba come from
Yabba or Yabba means plenty talk
