History at Maindample before the KellyGang

First taken up in the late 1830s. Originally it was part of the Watson and Hunter empire that was based at Wappan and included Barjar, Dueran, Maindample, Mt Battery, Preston,and Loyola. The licence was first held by Thomas Willis and William Highett.(27,000 acres)

What was Maindample like in the late 1870's

In the early 1870s Maindample was a gold mining area. But do it last for long? (Alexandra2/10/1868)

In about 1871 Wild Wright stole a horse from the Maindample school teacher William Adair and gave it to Ned Kelly.

Robert George Duff was the agent at Maindample park. He gave evidence at the trial id Walter Lynch. (Argus18/3/79)
