In 1861, the line from North Melbourne to Essendon, brought the railway to Flemington and later on to the north east of Victoria

Ass Com Nicolson caught train for Benalla from Flemington
Insp O'Connor stayed at the 'Ferns' Flemington. He was at Flemington on 27/6/1880 when he heard of Aaron Sherritt's murder.
On 1/8/1880 Ned Kelly was taken from the Melbourne Gaol to New Market near Flemington to catch the train to be taken to Beechworth for his committal hearing
