Jack was born in ?. I married Anne Kelly in 1858
Anne Kelly was born in Ireland in 1831 and came to Melbourne on the Maldon with my brothers and sisters Edmond, James, Daniel and Mary in 1857.
We started off by living at Wallan and then moved to Beveridge. Later we moved to Avenel in 1859
While in Avenel we rented a farm from Thomas Ford.
In 1867 Ann charged Ellen Kelly with assault and Ellen counter sued. Ann won the case.
Later Ellen was charged with using threatening language against Thomas Ford
A Johanna Ryan (not my daughter) had a problem with the court in Kilmore (Kilmore16/3/1876)
We then moved to Lake Rowan and had a small property there. Our boys were considered by the police to be part of the Greta Mob
I was arrested by mistake. The police wanted my brother Joe. They eventually sorted it out and let me go.
Sup Hare explained what happened in the following terms, " There was one case of a man of the name of Ryan, of Lake Glenrowan. There are two brothers, very much alike. We picked out one brother as being a great friend of the Kellys, and the two constables who went out to arrest this man saw what they thought to be the man, but it was really his brother, and when they found their mistake they let him go, he not knowing what was up; but, thinking there was something wrong, took a short cut, and they saw him galloping up to his brother, but the constables caught him before he got there."
