Married into the Quinn family. Ned Kelly's mother Ellen, was Patrick Quinn's sister in law. A sympathizer or agent? I lived at South Hansen, seven miles beyond Greta.

My wife Margaret was assaulted by her brother Jimmy Quinn. At that time we were living on Fifteen Mile Creek. (Ensign19/4/1872)

Mark Whitty told me he had lost a bay cob. I said "There is a fellow called Billy Cook, who goes by the name of Lowry, about here, and I have heard he has taken it, and he is up about the Murray somewhere about Howlong."
After this, there were some horses belonging to James Whitty, Robert Jeffery, and John Farrell taken, and this man Jeffery came to me, and asked me to find out where the mare was taken he had lost. During the time this other horse was taken I saw those horses of Jeffery's and James Whitty's passing up to the waterhole with some horses of my own, so I made enquiries and found out that those horses were taken up to the Murray and that this man Cook was connected in the taking of them (RC17691)

I met Wild Wright at a ploughing match at; Greta, and he asked to buy two colts from me, and I brought them up the same night, and some other horses were taken away. (RC17691)

I met Ned Kelly about the time of the Fitzpatrick incident and suggested that he give himself up. (RC17694)

Just before the murders I was prepared to do a deal with the police to save the KellyGang. I discussed this with the police and I made this public to try and save Ned Kelly from execution. (Argus10/11/80)

The KellyGang approached me in November and suggested that I might tell the police about the KellyGang's intention of robbing banks in Bright, Seymour, Avenel or Euroa

A short time before the robbery man called Tom Roach came up to my dray. He said that he had been out all night and that he had pitched a billy of water on his fire that night because Kelly had come to his camp and four more. He said he left part of his things after him. So I said I supposed he had no supper or breakfast, and he said, "No," and I invited him to come along with me and have some. (RC17713) see also (RC473)?

Maggie Skillian visited us soon before the robbery (RC17705)

Nicolson accused me as being the person who sent him and Sadleir off to Wodonga at the time of the Euroa robbery. He said, 'He did not keep the appointment made a week before, but he came in on the day of the Euroa bank robbery. On Monday the 9th he came in. On that occasion there was nothing about Mrs. Skillian ever mentioned. He was mysterious, and told us he could take us away up to this basin. I saw the man was deceiving me, and one of the common sense reasons before him for not going at that moment was that the horses and men were fatigued and unfit for such a journey, having just come in; he could see them in the yard, and he never mentioned to me anything about Mrs Skillian. They said that Const Hall had to leave Greta after I assaulted him. I got 3 years for this (RC3211) When??

On about 28/9/1879 I met Sup Sadleir near Oxley and I told him of seeing the KellyGang with Tom Lloyd the day before. The police knew me as the agent Foote. (RC2nd reportXII) see also (RC742)

I prepared an affidavit to try and save Ned Kelly from execution (Argus10/11/80)

Const Robert Graham reported on 26th April 1881 relative to sympathizers of late KellyGang. -I beg to report for the information of the superintendent that a number of them were here at Greta yesterday, drinking, viz.: -Jack Quinn, Tom Lloyd, jun, Paddy McAuliffe, Tom McAuliffe, John McMonigal, and Jack Nolan; and from their manner I am led to believe that another outbreak among them is imminent. Jack Quinn is very anxious to find out who it was that got the sympathizers arrested in 1879. They all appear to have a great dislike to Pat Quinn, and speak of him as the black tracker."(RC9870)
