Siege at Glenrowan

I (or was it really Jack McHugh) was taken down by Ned Kelly and Steve Hart with Reardon and Sullivan to break the tracks early on the morning of 27/6/1880. (RC7608)

Mrs Jones' son Jack was shot soon after the first volley at the siege. Soon after that I carried him out through the police lines. I came out the back door and went down in the direction of the railway gate in front of the Inn, not to the platform. They were all firing at the time. I passed near Const Kirkham. see (RC7774.7390)(Argus29/6/1880)
About 9 hours later, about 11 am Jack arrived in the Wangaratta Hospital where he died at about midnight. I could not save him. (See also (RC11307) (RC11348)

What happened to the McHugh family
Please enjoy the story of the KellyGang, but also remember that at least 10 people died and many more had their lives changed in ways that may still be painful to some people.
