Sebastopol Cavalcade 7/11/1878

I was at the Sebastopol cavalcade (RC5723)

I took part in the hunt for the KellyGang through the Warby Ranges soon after the Mansfield Murders . When Ned Kelly was being taken back to Beechworth for his committal after the Glenrowan siege he mentioned that ' I can tell you every place his party camped in the Warby ranges, and who used to get up the horses.' According to Const Faulkiner's evidence to the royal Commission that was me.(RC5498)

I met SConst Johnson after he came back from Sebastopol(RC5507) See also (RC5723)

Euroa Robbery 10/12/1878

Sup Hare especially picked a group of really good horses and gave them to the best riders amongst the police, Const Canny, Falkner, and myself. (RC1427)
I used to get up early to get the horses ready. (RC5489)
Sup Hare's view of me (FH)

Whoroughly Race meeting 3/1879

I attended the race meeting at Whoroughly with other police in an attempt to try and catch the KellyGang. I did not know that area. I set up an under-and-over table and dice and to make bets on the races. I acted as a central point for the other police. Mr Hare just rode around the place in a buggy (RC1362)

During a search party with Sup Hare, and Consts Canny and Faulkiner, we found three or four saddles hanging up at a place near the Lloyd's home that had been recently uses, noticing they had surcingles on made by a saddler at Wangaratta. The person who occupied the place was a man with one hand, a bachelor, which clearly showed that he had not a use for four saddles. When the KellyGang was captured, and the horses and saddles brought to Benalla, Faulkiner identified those saddles as the ones we had seen hanging up in the house near Lloyd's. (RC5327)see also (RC5312)(FH)

Autum 1879
In about the second week in April 1879 I was with Sup Hare and a search party in the Warby Ranges. We came very close to the KellyGang (RC1290)
