Meet the people of the KellyGang story
I was born in 1820 in Ireland near Tipperary in the poverty of a 3/8 acre farm.
Sentenced on 1 January 1841, probably for stealing to stay alive and finally transported on a ship called the Prince Regent and sent to Van Dieman's Land (now Tasmania).
Arrived in Hobart Town in January 1842.
I worked in a number of positions in convict camps at Browns River, Morven, Perth, near Launceston. I was granted a ticket of leave in 1845 and his certificate of freedom in 1848.
I was 5 feet 8 inches tall and had reddish hair, reddish whiskers

I met James Quinn, Ellen's father while he was fencing at Donnybrook.
Ellen and I married in Melbourne in November 1850. Soon after they were living at Wallan.
In about 1853 I went gold mining near Kilmore and later at Bendigo. I came home to their home on Merri Creek for Christmas 1853.
I then went into business with the Quinns doing some horse stealing.
