Early
years
I was bor in Ireland in 1835
Edward, Daniel, Mary, Ann and I arrived in Victoria in 1857 and we went to live a Wallan with Red Kelly and his family
When they left to go to Avenel I stayed around Kilmore.
On 12/05/1862 I was charged with cattle stealing -but discharged by the Kilmore court
On 21/10/1862 I was back in the Kilmore court charged with cattle stealing again- with the same result, I was discharged
On 22/4/1864 I was convicted for cattle stealing, at Kilmore, and sentenced to 4 years. (RCApp10)
Greta
In
1868 Ellen
Kelly was living in an old pub
at
Greta with her children. I
was drunk when I set fire to the place. I was charged with arson and sentenced
to death by Judge
Barry in Beechworth.
The sentence was commuted by the government to life in prison.
Later
I
finished my days in the Beechworth Asylum
Please enjoy the story of the KellyGang, but also remember that at least 10 people died and many more had their lives changed in ways that may still be painful to some people.
