Ned Kellys Trial /10/1880

Agents

Mr Gaunson and I had great difficulty in preparing for Ned Kelly's trial. We had limited access to our client. The Crown delayed the hand over of the written depositions. They were full of references to the police reports of the various exploits of the members of the KellyGang. Mrs Skillion was having great difficulty in raising our fee and that also limited our efforts. I was not particularly familiar with the details of Mr Kelly's adventures and little time to catch up.

On the morning of 18/10/1880 the trial started in the Central Criminal Court in Melbourne. I asked for an adjournment to read all the material from the Crown and for an increase in our fee. I was the second choice. (Argus19/10/80) See also (JJK)

What happened to Mr Bindon's family

Please enjoy the story of the KellyGang, but also remember that at least 10 people died and many more had their lives changed in ways that may still be painful to some people.
