I was described by Sup Hare as a wonderful bushman and accustomed to bush life. (FH)
I was also a kangaroo hunter by profession, and made a capital living by shooting kangaroos. (RC1286)
Especially after the Euroa and Jerilderie robberies the police realised that they did not know the country and that they did not know how to move through it as the KellyGang did. I gave them a had with these skills.
I went out with Sup Hare on a search party into the Warby Ranges in April and we had some fun (RC1291)
Later I took up a selection near Yarrawonga. (RC1286)
John settled to farming at South Yarrawonga in the 1880's with his wife Agnes Nicol Hill. They had 5 children, of which Alfred was the only son to marry. Two daughters married Lynch brothers.
John died in his 40's and Agnes sold the farm and returned to Benalla.
