Summary of the evidence on day 27 of the hearings
8/6/1881 Margaret Reardon commenced her evidence - some brief highlights
Mrs Reardon was the wife of the railway worker. She and her children were held by the KellyGang in the Jones's Inn and shot at by the police at the Glenrowan Siege.
They were taken to the station masters house first

Mr Reardon defended his wife's allegations about the conduct of some of the police officers at Glenrowan.

Mr Allen reported the Glenrowan siege for the Melbourne Daily Telegraph.
8/6/1881 Jesse Dowsett commenced his evidence - some brief highlights
Dowsett was a Guard on the Victorian railways. He arrived at Glenrowan with Sup Sadleir. He was due to go up on the first train with Hare; why the change of plans?
What happened when Sadleir first arrived at Glenrowan
Soon after he arrived Mrs Reardon tried to leave the Inn with her baby.
Dowsett commenced his description of the capture of Ned Kelly with the following words, '..all at once something seemed to come as if somebody was hitting me at the back, and I turned round and saw this strange- looking object coming over the hill from the Wangaratta side.'
Dowsett was behind the log where Ned Kelly was captured and they exchanged shots at each other and a few words. He described the roles played by Sgt Steele and SConst Kelly in the capture of Ned Kelly.
There were reports that Steele was going to kill Ned Kelly just after he was captured. What happened?
Who kicked Ned Kelly and why?
"I never heard a word about any armour or anything else, not till we were at the log when we pulled it off, because he had like a white mackintosh over the whole affair down to his heels, and the helmet standing on his head, and what with the fog and one thing and another, golly! it made him about nine feet high; upon my word it did, coming through the gloom there. I said it was Old Nick, and upon my word I thought it was at the time."
