GOBUR

Mining in this locality is almost at a standstill, on account of the Just In Time and Revival Co's., becoming defunct. Most of our mining population have left in search of employment else where; half-a-dozen or so still remain; these find for themselves employment; fossicking in the old and shallow ground. This depression in mining gives to our once busy and prosperous little town, a deserted and impoverished appearance. But Gobur, like many other gold fields will most undoubtedly see better days, since her quartz reefs are still hidden and untried, and no man who has the least knowledge of the system which formed our alluvial deposits, can have any doubt as to their existence.

Mr F Lund, an old and much esteemed resident, has left us during the past week, he having been appointed mining manager to some of the Ballarat mines. Mr Lund is one of the oldest mining managers in the district, having filled that office with credit in the Gobur, Just in Time, and Revival Co's., successively. The people of Gobur believe to a man, wish him every success.

Messrs O'Callaghan and Rennie are trying to form a co-operative party to work a piece of ground formerly held by the Never Can Tell Co. It is the general opinion, there still remains a considerable piece of payable ground left by this Company on the Western Reef. Should this undertaking prove a success; it will help in some degree to tide over present depression.
