Full text of article

Mr Edward Monk, saw mill proprietor, of Wombat, made a sworn declaration on Saturday last, in which he reiterates his previous statements as to threatening letters received by him, and as to his having been fired at on the night of the 26tli April. With regard to the recent inquiry by Mr Panton, PM, he alleges that all the civilian witnesses called by the Crown were adverse to him, because as they said, he was harbouring the police. As to the statement that no footprints of his assailant could be found at the spot where the attack was made when the police examined the locality, he points out that heavy rain fell in the interim. He also traverses several statements made by witnesses; states that he has for six months been in constant fear of his life; that he had been put to great expense; that he is afraid to look after his property, which is consequently unprotected; and that he is a ruined man. At the end he begs re consideration of his case.
