BEECHWORTH ASSIZE COURT

BEECHWORTH, Saturday
The Beechworth Assize Court lasted four days, and there is one more case to be heard It was the heavíest calendar for years. Mr Justice Barry presided, and Mr Chomley prosecuted for the Crown. The following sentences were passed -Emile Villars, horse stealing, Beechworth, three years imprisonment; William Williamson, William Skillion, and Ellen Kelly, aiding and abetting and attempt to murder Constable Fitzpatrick at Greta, the two first named six years, and the woman three years …..
G Baumgarten and Samuel Kennedy, horsesteahng at Moyhu , this case excited great mterest, as twice the jury had disagreed. The prisoners were now found guilty, Baumgarten was sentenced to four years, and Kennedy to six years.
