On Wednesday a deputation consisting of Archdeacon Tucker, the Rev TJ Egan, and Mr Tone, the Mayor of Wangaratta, waited upon the Benalla Shire Council to solicit help from that body, and to remove an apparent misunderstanding which had arisen. On being introduced, Dr Tucker said that some time ago the attention of the Hospital Committee wan directed to a newspaper paragraph stating that the committee had not acted courteously to tire Council, and consequently the Council had refused to contribute. These was no intention in the minds of any member of the Hospital Committee to slight any member-of the Council, much more the President.

The facts were that the Patients Committee had reported that more cases were coming from Benalla than the contributions justified, and it then transpired that Mr Sharpe recommended three cases, which was more than his contribution justified and he was, merely informed that he was infringing the Hospital rules. The Hospital was open for patients from all parts of the district and seven had been received from Benalla, while only £7 5s 6d had been contributed. He then asked the Council to support the institution. The Mayor of Wangaratta also explained, and ably sought the assistance of the only public body which did not help so good an institution. The President said the Council could not then discuss the matter, as a resolution had been passed, and they must rescind that resolution. He had only sent two patients, one of whom paid his own board. Rev Father Egan said he always felt there was' a misunderstanding, but assured the Council that the Committee were only anxious to carry out the rules, which were the same as those of Beechworth Hospital: No action was taken through it could have been had the President allowed it, and the deputation with drew.
